IN THE TWILIGHT

When evening light begins to dim,
Purple colors line the rim,
Of sky that transforms into dark
The stars are out like tiny sparks,
Sparkling orbs that seem to wink
To hold the world up from the brink

Off in the distance, a coyote barks,
While in the trees, a meadowlark -
Sings lovely notes to end the day
Fields all smell of fresh mown hay.
A peacefulness this time of day
The twilight hour holds night at bay.

Night encroaches, slowly creeps
Mother Nature prepares for sleep
The Evening Star is waning down
The moon is up, but wears a gown
Of ruffled clouds across one half
Yet, hides not the moonlight on the path.

The moon climbs higher in the sky
Night creatures come out, as if to spy
Nocturnal creatures who love the dark
Who love the sky with the tiny sparks
Suddenly, twilight is folded away
Nighttime arrives to end this day.

Twilight is magical, but doesn't last,
Soon folded up, it becomes the past.
The past, a memory, held in the mind
To bring up, often it helps to unwind
Wipes away cobwebs, dries the tears,
Of someone living in the twilight years.
