THE OTHER SIDE OF HUMANITY
Between the ages of morning and night,
Rays of matter and blasts of light,
Creatures screech a familiar refrain,
As speckles tell of warm summer rain.
Sounds that drift through thinning air,
Racing onward in great despair,
Bruising the soul with no visual mark,
A body, asleep, on a bench, in the park.
Strangers, passersby, stare in disgust,
At a frail old body of filth and dust.
What brought this child to this degradation?
Who wronged this gem of God's creation?
Sadly, life shows us it's not just one,
But thousand of others, beaten and done.
What happened, society, to wealth and worth?
To the single greatest nation on earth?
Angry clouds roll in, thick and dark.
At a small town street light, a dog begins to bark.
A child, lying still, there is no one about,
A grimace on his face, his life leaking out.
A deal goes bad and evil prevails,
Searching for a bit of 'snow' can push you into hell.
Another life wasted and no one to cry,
Few stop to ponder this, or even wonder why.
She's hiding in a door way, colored purple and black,
Praying earth to swallow her, to fall into the cracks.
Creeping in the shadows and underneath the stairs,
Using all her energies to hide the cross she bares.
Definitions playing games softly as she weeps,
Emotions take the best of life; the scars run deep.
She wishes just to run away, if only she dared.
Could there be someone? Someone who cared?
Our cities; now ghettos, children roam the streets,
Are we losing all respect? Are we liars, thieves and cheats?
As the darkness continues creeping, morning is near.
All the silent creepy shadows will soon disappear.
In the moss covered forest of our mind we see,
There are no easy answers, to fix this enemy.
We have throw- away children in our society,
What will happen to our country; this land of the free?Jay Cee ~~ ©
