SIGNS OF SPRING
Evening shadows giving way to night,
Clouds building up to the left and the right.
Flashing of light in the distant sky,
Far away rumblings make the birds fly.
Closer they creep as darkness ascends,
Rain droplets spatter as night begins.
Midnight rain, falling whisper soft,
Drops form a trickle and from the roof, fall off.
Night sounds are carried as clouds hang low,
Dark clouds look angrily at the earth below.
Yet, sleep is restful as night hangs on,
Soon, stars appear, and the rain is gone.
Morning brings windblown clouds to the sky,
Sun breaks through and the raindrops dry.
New leaves grew rapidly during the long night,
And grass; now green, was brown last twilight.
A squirrel scampers playfully along the way,
I saw the first robin of spring, today.
Dandelions dressed in their yellow best,
As woodland ferns unfold with zest.
Purple violets wearing a cheerful smile,
As Mr. Woodchuck plays out on the sundial.
Redbirds sings and the mockingbird mimics,
These are Mother Nature's attention gimmicks.
Coming again, is the season's new look,
One that's impossible to be captured in a book.
Worms wiggle inside the warm, brown earth,
Sleeping bugs, buried, stir to their birth.
Cultivating the soil as farmers in spring,
The sign that Mother Nature is having her fling!Jay Cee ~~ ©
