THE NIGHT

The half moon hung low in the western sky,
And just as the wind was beginning to die,
The big dipper dipped, turning upside down,
Spilling out stars and spreading them around.

Each star was dressed in a sparkling gown,
All wore diamonds in the form of a crown.
Orion, showing off his huge, buckled belt;
The Milky-Way - just how proud she felt.

The earth was taking its normal spin,
Awaiting the twilight time to end.
And as the darkness settled down,
It settled on city, country and town.

Some creep around in the dark of the night,
One takes a lover, while two lovers fight.
Thinking darkness hides things they do,
Oh! Don't be mistaken, someone's watching you!

The darkness is for resting, of the day; just past.
Soon the sleepy sun is up, day begins; at last.
Make the most of the daylight, get the chores done.
For once again the dark will win, against the setting sun.

As twilight gathers her skirts from the wind,
The night creatures scurry into their den.
A new moon rises and sheds its light
As the world settles down, to rest for the night.
