OCTOBER'S ON THE WAY

Feel that tingle on the nose,
Hear the cricket, hear the crows.
See the blackbirds cover the sky,
They're flying south, waving good-bye.

Nature's calling, the animals know,
Temperatures dropping, ever so low.
Country roadsides, dressed in yellow,
The corn is brown, the apples mellow.

Jack Frost soon will bring his brush,
To paint the leaves red, gold and rust.
And soon, the wind will come to play,
To blow and puff them all away.

Begins the nights of harvest moons,
Trick or treaters, ghost and goons.
Smell the waning autumn mist,
Cheeks turn red, the wind has kissed.

It's Mother Nature's time to play,
To clean out her closets; to put things away.
Fold up the grass and flowers, 'til spring,
To protect them from the North Wind's sting.

Pull your covers up tight when you nap,
Dig out your Pjs and a warm night cap.
Stack lots of firewood up near the door,
Have it handy when the snowstorms roar.

But for the moment, get out in the sun,
Rake up the leaves to jump in, for fun.
Picnic by the lake, when skies are blue,
The trees are dressed up, just for you.

Night skies are brighter, ever so fair,
Stars are like diamonds God hung there.
And yet, another year is winding down,
Off and running in a white nightgown.

So, come you children, enjoy today,
The wind's asleep and we can play.
It's a gathering time, a harvest to reap,
And then, this year will drift off to sleep.
