THE AUTUMN OF OUR LIVES
Dolls and books and candy canes,
Little cars and toy trains.
Nursery school and Peter Pan,
ABC's and trace your hand.
Ring Around The Rosie game,
How old are you? What's your name?
Best friends, ball game; then...a crush,
Just walking by, the face is flushed.
Penny loafers, saddle shoes, poodle skirts.
Cuffed up jeans and rolled T-shirts.
Ball games, dances, a real first date,
Always a warning, "Don't stay out late."
Graduation, college, out on your own,
Marriage, children, your first home.
A job, a mortgage, sometimes a grind,
Making do, wanting better - it'll come, in time.
Pounding the pavement; the job is gone,
"Wonder how we'll all get along?"
New job, new friends, kids growing up,
Thank the Lord for the fullness of my cup!
The kids are in college, the house is still,
Some folks call this, being ''over the hill."
It's only a time for us husbands; we wives,
To share and enjoy the The Autumn Of Our Lives.
