WHEN IT'S SPRINGTIME IN KENTUCKY
When it's springtime in Kentucky,
That's when special flowers bloom.
Many brightly colored flowers,
Chase away the winter's gloom.
And the grass becomes a carpet,
Just like flooring in a room.
It seems to grow at night time,
When the heavy thunders boom.
Soon the lilacs are all showy,
Sending out their best perfume.
You can even see their color,
By the shining big full moon.
Dogwood winter comes a'calling,
Out comes the blanket cocoon.
With May around the corner,
And heading fast for June.
Dark thunderstorms of springtime,
Make you wish to sleep 'til noon,
Then, the sun pops out and nudges,
As you hear a robin's tune.
Springtime is a wondrous time,
Doesn't last; but ends too soon.
Then summer comes to Kentucky,
Like a shiny red balloon.
