TIME FLIES AND MUD PIES

teddybear

Come visit with me now,
Back to days of yore.
When times were simply,
A time to explore.
And children would play.
Out under the shade,
Daring to taste
The mud pies they made.

Comic books and tire swings,
Climbing up a tree;
Cowboys and Lincoln Logs,
Took the place of T. V.
Shooting marbles, Simon says,
Hide and Go Seek;
Cover your eyes, hide your face.
Now don't you dare peek!

At dusky dark, we played tag,
Flew June bugs on a string.
Caught lightening bugs in a jar,
Hearing peepers in the stream.
Jumping rope, hop scotch,
Playing Mother May I?
A red wagon, a scooter
And a bike that seemed to fly!

To church on Sunday Morning,
Dressed in only our best.
Come home for chicken dinner.
The preacher would be the guest.
Men retired to the front porch,
The women, the chores to do.
Children hurried to be excused,
Then out the backdoor they flew.

Of all the things we held so dear,
Tomorrow still becomes today.
Of all the wishes we hold in our hearts,
Yesterday won't return this way.
A little girl’s wish, a small boys dream,
The wonder in their eyes,
Soon become a moment in time,
Known as Time Flies and Mud Pies.
