FREE SPIRIT

Sitting by a pool of water,
White sand at her feet.
Brushing hair, the color of ebony,
Her figure, slim and petite.

Dressed in buckskin, beaded white,
Her moccasins, made the same,
She was a lovely young maiden,
Free Spirit was her name.

Today, she was to have married,
A young warrior she'd grown to love.
He was so brave and very strong,
He was known as Golden Dove.

The wedding dress was waiting,
Their room was lain with skins.
The holy man had blessed the place,
With a potion, outside and in.

As day dawned in the eastern sky,
The wedding day games began.
And a skip of her heart sent a vision,
That no one had seen in the clan.

She saw a horse of pure silver,
A rider, dressed all in black.
He was swift and fast approaching,
He came, then never looked back.

Golden Dove was on the grass,
His pony had thrown him down.
It seems he saw the silver horse,
Was spooked and lost his ground.

Lain to rest on their wedding day,
Free Spirit was much distraught.
She knew that she would never have,
The love of the man she had sought.

Now she sits by the pool, brushing her hair,
As she watches the sky above.
One day she knows the silver horse,
Will come and take her to her love.

Free Spirit will then be released,
Golden Dove will catch her wisp.
Joined together for evermore,
Kindred souls, as one, in the mist.
