AS MY LOVE LIES SLEEPING
As you and I and the world sleeps,
Morning light outside creeps.
I turn over and in a while -
I see you lying there and smile.
Would like to kiss you, do I dare?
You wouldn't miss one. Got one to spare?
I look you over from foot to face,
Serene in sleep and pretty lace.
I kiss your mouth, you smile and nod
And I say reverently, "Thank you, God."
Remember one time for almost a week,
You were mad at me and would hardly speak?
Because you thought that I had lied.
You wouldn't ask. You had your pride.
That seems long ago, in another world
So much love has since then unfurled.
Our love grows deeper with each passing hour.
My heart knows this and lives on the power.
My thoughts ran wild and you awoke.
We made love to each other, neither spoke.
Shivers and tingles creep over my soul,
Each time I think of the love we hold.
My arms hold you close and I feel your breast
Rise and fall evenly, your body at rest.
Instead of sleeping, on and on I stare,
At all the world I have lying there.
The sun is just up and shining through
Shadows on the wall are just pictures you drew.
Times spent together seem a brief interlude.
I could live on forever in this solitude.
Without you, I'd be a poor helpless sight,
Stumbling through darkness, alone in the night.
Before you, my life was just yesterdays,
I was half living, walking 'round in a daze.
But with you now, the universe revolves.
Together, no problems we cannot solve.
Our heads together consist of one mind
Proving togetherness, of reason and rhyme.
As sleep overcomes me,
Last remembered, I sigh,
As dreams overtake me,
Painting pictures of you and I.
